Hello my dear friends, Welcome to the Lakeside Travel & Tour Official blog.
As excited as i am that we are keeping our promises to You our dear esteemed Readers, today we are going to inform you about the reason why 6 in every 10 Nigerians with a valid Schengen visa are denied entry into Schengen member countries. Now lets begin by understanding what a Schengen visa is..
What is a Schengen visa?
A Schengen visa is an official document issued by an authority of any member of the Schengen member countries. It is a document that permits entry into a Schengen country for a specific duration depending on purpose of travel.
Schengen union are made up of 26 member countries, namely; Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherland, Norway, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Czech Republic, Sweden & Switzerland.
However, a Schengen visa does not guarantee your entry to all Schengen member countries. After painstaking experiences and research, we discovered that a Schengen visa is only one of the requisite documents needed to travel within Schengen countries.
Except in a case where you are taking a Direct non-stop flight from Nigeria to a Schengen country of your destination, Nigerians (exception of Diplomats & Govt official) are required to obtain a Transit visa from the consulate of the Schengen country that they are transitting through.
There are two types of Transit visa under the uniform Schengen visa group.
Transit visa category 'A' - For travellers that will stop and wait for several hours for their flight to arrive before departing for Schengen country of their destination.
Category 'B' - For travellers that intend to travel by road through Schengen countries to their schengen country of destination.
Note: A Transit visa is valid for a maximium of 5 Days.
Beware of fake travel agents that will ask you to pay for the Schengen Transit visa application form. The application form is free of charge and can be downloaded online or obtained from consulates in Nigeria.
It is instructive to note that the only cost for applying for a Transit visa is the visa fee and this fee is only payable at the table of the Consular when submitting your application form to the visa officer.
In Addition: When ever you are planning to travel, endeavour to verify from the airline / flight operator if you may need a Transit visa.
