What is a Babymoon
Honeymoon is for married people. So what is Babymoon?
Getting married to the right person is a sweet thing but for me the thoughts of becoming a husband is weighing more than a ton of Gwari block (Please don't ask me why). But no matter how heavy this thoughts might be soon I must transit from bachelorhood to a married man.
Nowadays my mum literally wakes me up with phone calls and constant demand to know the 'D Date' and my usually answer will be 'surely mum we’ll be taking a date soon as possible'
So What Is a Babymoon?
A babymoon is a relaxing vacation taken by couples who are expecting a child. Babymoons are often taken in luxurious locations, as the babymoon is seen as the last vacation that the couple will have alone until their child leaves home when they reach legal age. Babymoon travel is typically taken during the second trimester of pregnancy, when pre-natal complications and pre-term birth risk is at its lowest.
First coined by social anthropologist Sheila Kitzinger in 1994 as a term referencing the post-natal time period that is spent with parent and child, the term has evolved with time to indicate a vacation period.
As best I can tell, the general idea of a babymoon is to have “one last trip” as a couple before you transition to the life of family travel. Whereas a honeymoon is a celebration of your new life ahead, a babymoon is a celebration of the old life you’re about to leave behind. Or something like that. For others, a babymoon is just the natural progression that follows from a really, really successful honeymoon…
Many celebrities are indulging in the babymoon vacation, taking both luxurious and low-key trips to far off destinations all over the world. Pop culture icons William, Duke of Cambridge & Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, took a babymoon vacation to Mustique in 2013 and once again babymooned during their second pregnancy with a trip to Scotland at Balmoral Castle.
Celebrity couples Kim Kardashian and Kanye West went on their first babymoon to Paris in 2013, followed by several mini-vacations.
In 2016, the babymoon trend expanded in Bollywood when several celebrity couples, including Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, publicly took babymoon vacations and shared them with entertainment news sources.
A film about the trend is slated for release in 2017. “The Babymoon” is the first full-length feature film about babymoon cultural phenomena, written and directed by Bailey Kobe. It is the first film that explored the idea of taking a romantic vacation in the middle of pregnancy and what the impact of that vacation is on the relationship of the parents.

Have you been on a babymoon. If so, where did you go and how was the experience?
